Whiskey & Go Go is a go go bar located in Bangkok’s famous Nana Entertainment Plaza. It has one of the more interesting looking entrances in the entire NEP. So it even manages to stand out amongst all the bikini babes and neon lights.
Anothrer thing that makes Whiskey & Go Go notable is that it opened in late 2020. That was right in the heat of the pandemic when things were still very much unsettled. But Whiskey survived everything and is now a pretty popular agogo.
There are a lot of go go bars in Bangkok. They all follow a fairly similar model but there are of course differences between the bars too. A place like Crazy House is known for its nude and raunchy dancers. Spanky’s is known for spanking. Whiskey & Go Go is perhaps most known for offering a wide array of aged whiskeys. That may be a problem.
Whiskey in Nana Plaza
Whiskey & Go Go is located on Nana Plaza’s second floor. The name of the bar is spelled out in neon right over the door. That door is an elaborate antique wooden door unlike anything I have seen at any venue of this type anywhere in the world.
Inside the bar is a little more plain. There are the requisite stages and poles but none of that is really special. What is different is the way the bar is run.
There are no mamasans in charge of the ladies on staff at Whiskey & Go Go. That means there is no one to tell ladies where to sit or who to sit with. There is no one pushing for customers to buy lady drinks either. In fact there isn’t even anyone to tell ladies what to wear! So other than the number badges the gals can put on whatever they want. It’s a truly free flying agogo.
Whiskey & Go Go is appropriately named. The go go aspect of the bar is key. But the management doesn’t seem to think it is the only key. So they have set up a lounge style place complete with enchanced drink options. The result is probably the only go go bar in Thailand where you can order up a Johnny Walker Gold Label Reserve on the rocks.
Staff, services and summary
Whiskey & Go Go has managed to recruit a good number of dancers without the aid of a mamasan. Still the ladies are rather well mannered and wearing a variety of outfits. Some go the sexy costume route while others stick to the tried and true bikini set.
Most of the ladies dancing at Whiskey appear to be in their mid twenties. There may be a couple who are closer to their mid thirties. This is not a coyote dancer sort of place at all.
More experienced gals seem more keen to work here. I’ve even seen a few well known faces from other bars at Whiskey. So I guess they have been able to recruit some star performers over from other venues. The lack of a demanding mamasan may have had something to do with this.
The lack of mamasans doesn’t have anything to do with the prices though. The ladies at this bar start off by asking the same 3000 Baht ($85 USD) for short time as their counterparts in other Nana Entertainment Plaza bars. While this is not a huge sum of money we are talking about Thailand. The reality is that some Thai go go dancers are now getting more than many sex workers in Europe.
Starting a go go bar in Bangkok must be difficult. Starting it in the midst of a global pandemic and travel shutdown must be incredibly tough. Somehow the poeple behind Whiskey & Go Go have managed to make it work so far. They deserve a lot of credit for that. Now that things have started to normalize we will see how many people take to the bar.
Whiskey & Go Go is trying something new and somewhat unique. I think it is a very interesting place. But I am not sure how the general punting public is going to respond. I guess that only time will tell. Whiskey is definitely not worse than most other bars in Nana Plaza. So for now I give Whiskey & Go Go a slightly above average three stars.
