Review: Crazy House in Bangkok, Thailand

Crazy House may not be one of the most well known go go bars in Bangkok among the general public. But it is definitely notorious among those in the know. The biggest reason for that would surely be the fully nude dancers inside. Years ago nudity was the norm in many agogos. But things have changed in most venues. With fully nude dancers Crazy House is a very obvious exception.

Most go go bars aimed at foreigners in Bangkok are found in three areas. The first would be the famous Nana Plaza on Soi 4. That street is also known as Soi Nana which goes to show how big the place is. The second place is the old school alleys of Patpong Soi 1 and Patpong Soi 2. Last there is the neon Soi Cowboy strip located right in the heart of the city.

Crazy House Agogo

Crazy House is located near but not on Soi Cowboy. The bar is actually around the corner on Sukhumvit Soi 23. It is the only go go bar on Soi 23. And it joins just a handful of other go go bars that can be found around town which are not in one of the three areas mentioned above. I don’t know exactly why that is. But it may have something to do with the way things are run inside.

Many go go bars have guys or gals working the door or curtain out front. They are usually either indifferent or quite welcoming. Crazy House is one of the only go go bars I’ve seen that has guys working the doors who look more like security staff than greeters. Apparently these guys do control the flow of traffic. There are numerous reports that people of certain appearances or group sizes are told they have to pay in advance to enter. I have not personally experienced this in many visits to the place. But I have heard enough to believe that it is true.

Inside the Crazy House

Inside Crazy House is usually packed to capacity. Or at least it was in normal times. There is an elevated stage filled with dancers. Seats go around the stage and some of the walls. There are also tables throughout the other parts of the floor. These are often the only available seats but they have an obscured view of the stage.

There are many women working the Crazy House. I’ve never done a full count but I would imagine there are easily fifty gals around on busy nights. As stated earlier most of the dancers go without clothes most of the time. They dance in their birthday suits and often stay that way even when snuggled up with customers who buy them lady drinks.

Most of the gals seem keen for going out with guys buy only on a short time basis to local hotels. The barfine is 650 Baht or it is all variable as can be the case in Southeast Asia. People can be asked for anything from 700 to 1000 Baht ($23-33 USD) for a barfine depending on the situation. The gals themselves usually start off with high quotes of 3000 Baht ($99 USD) or more when it comes to their compensation.

The place is incredibly loud inside which makes conversation difficult. But people find other ways to get to know each other. The staff is attentive but busy and at times terse. These days they have even taken to asking immediate payment for drinks and lady drinks. With lady drinks going for up to 340 Baht ($11.25 USD) I imagine this helps avoid disputes. It is still not very customer friendly. And really nothing is at Crazy House from the door to the bill. But people go there to see and meet naked Thai women. I doubt that will change anytime soon. Two stars.

Crazy House is located at Sukhumvit Soi 23, Bangkok, Thailand. Click here for a map. Open every day from 7:00 PM until 3:00 AM.

  1. Before the pandemic the girls often used the “double ladydrink scam” , vodka-coke was 2 drinks which meant 500 baht.

Guys with knowledge of Bangkok used to be impressed with the hedonistic nudity – but they did not like the Bar because of stories about how the staff were treated. But the situation is hopefully much better now.

I once took a girl back to Grande Millenium (Pullman Grande). It turned up to be a drunk starfish.

The Bar is not a favourite on Soi Cowboy but a must visit, if that makes any sense?

    1. Thanks for the comment Alex. I totally understand what you mean. Some cities are nice to visit but you wouldn’t want to live in them. Cheers!

  2. Went there before Covid, a Thai man at the entrance was holding a 100 baht bill implying that you have to pay this fee to enter. I pretend to turn away he then scoped me back and let me in with a smile on his face. This stance was to make money from the tourists that were un-aware of the real situation. The bar was full and the atmosphere was nice. There were 2 floors, ground level girls were topless and upper level’s girls were nude. The staff push away other patrons to give me a spot to sit. then she asked me to order a drink immediately. Within 10 mins, the middle aged female staff asked me to order another drink or leave. This gave me a bad taste in my mouth so after I finished the beer, I left and never returned…To me, this place is good for one time visit to get a taste of what the fuss it was all about~

    1. Thanks for the report Chryo. That sounds like a fairly common sort of experience at this place. I share your assessment. Cheers.

    1. There are quite a few. Spanky’s, Butterflies, Billboard, Babydolls, Silver Star, Heaven Above, Windmill, Kink, and others come to mind. Cheers.

  3. New management in a Bar and tencious police restrictions aimed to get more tea-money constantly change the situation on the ground. Best is to explore and find out.
If we talk about Soi Cowboy, Crazy House is the most explicit due to influential ownership. Rockit mention a few other Bars in Cowboy, also Suzie Wong, Long Gun, Dollhouse have lots of nudity – Baccara had shows with nude segments, and the “no knickers policy” is always very attractive.

But who knows what the nightlife industry will look like next high season, or when big tourist- numbers return to Thailand?

Pattaya is probably a safer bet for hedonistic Bar-experiences in the future?

  4. I gotta say, Crazy Horse is one of my favorites, if not my favorite! I was only there during the Pandemic, but never had any hassle. The women are the hottest around, if they make eye contact then you can be assured you will have a lovely and friendly lady sitting in your lap naked for a nice amount of time. Just be sure to point on the menu for exactly the lady drink you want. I took two ladies out from there and it seems that many of the girls just work there infrequently as they need money. Indeed both of these girls would message me and say “Oh I am working this Thursday please come visit me.” Certainly a better experience than I had at Suzy Wong’s where I got a dancing lady a LD, she slammed it down, said thanks and then went back to her other customer.

Cheers for keeping the content coming Rockit! Eagerly awaiting Deepthroats 2022.

  5. Are gogo bars typically ok for solo guys going in? Heard a lot easier to get scammed when you roll in these solo (especially at Soi Cowboy or was it Nana)

    1. The vast majority of customers in go go bars enter on their own. Patpong had a reputation for scams. In other areas the worst I’ve really heard of is lady’s taking “double lady drinks” or the managers asking for payment up front. Of course anything is possible. Cheers.

  6. Greedy Mamasans are not uncommon. Crazy House had a notourious one who later moved to NEP.

During the years there have been reports of bill padding in the Arabs Bars in Cowboy, but there is very little reason to visit these Bars anyway.

Maybe I have had an issue with the bill 3-4 times in over 2000 visits to different Go go bars in Bangkok and Pattaya. Cheers.

  7. My friends and I came to this bar 2 times. First time there were 3 of us and we got in without any problem. The second time, however, left me with a bad impression. This time, my white friend had other plans so it was just the 2 of us who are of Asian descent. The security guy at the door stopped us and asked where we are from and demanded 500 baht entrance fee to let us in which is ridiculous. Not sure if they do this randomly or just to certain groups of people, but I think it’s utterly stupid that they discriminate against us for being Asian, even though they’re also Asian themselves. I’m definitely not coming back there next time I’m in Bangkok.
