SOD Land is a multi-level adult entertainment facility operated by the enormous “Soft on Demand” company in Japan. SOD is a famous Japanese porn producer that is also in the business of manufacturing things like sex toys and even adult lubricants.
The SOD Land facilities have been promoting as a sort of “amusement park” for porn fans and adults of all stripes. While popular with local Japanese punters the place also attracts its fair share of foreigners too. This is hardly a secret facility.
SOD Land has already been covered by all manner of media for years. You can find reviews of the place in mainstream magazines and on social media sites. So you might wonder why Rockit Reports would be so late to the party. Historically this website has been ahead of the curve in publishing reports on little known aspects of the sex industry around the world. In times past major news outlets have picked up on my original reporting when it came to things like the Fuji Building in Hong Kong. So timing is not necessarily of the essence.
In this case I thought it would be worthwhile to write about SOD Land from my own unique perspective. I have written about the sex industry around the world for over a decade. I first started reporting on adult entertainment in Japan all the way back in 2012 when it was a lot more common to hear “sorry no foreigners” at fuzoku shops across the country.
All about SOD Land
SOD Land is located in the Kabukicho section of Shinjuku in Tokyo. This area is commonly described as a red light area. Kabukicho is indeed full of adult shops such as Asian Feeling and Madonna. But it’s also home to mainstream stores, restaurants and more. So it is a popular haunt of both locals and tourists.
Soft on Demand is one of the largest adult entertainment companies in the world. Their estimated average annual earnings are somewhere in the realm of 15,000,000,000 Yen ($97,000,000 USD). But if you’re expecting a porno Disneyland you will be disappointed. SOD is located inside of a fairly regular little multi-story building on the middle of a city block.
The place is actually somewhat unassuming from the street. But if you know, then you know. When you enter there is a brightly lit lobby to the right. A Japanese woman in office lady garb stands behind the desk and checks you in for your visit.
As with most adult entertainment facilities in Japan, there is a dizzying number of options and add-ons available at SOD. Customers can visit various floors, do an overall package, or simply shop for a porn related souvenir there in the lobby. If you decide to go all in, you’re given a wrist band like you might find in a Macau sauna or Jakarta sex club. Your charges are billed to your wrist band and you pay on the way out.
Sexy but no sex at SOD Land
The idea of SOD Land is that fans can come close to the AV industry. In reality it is a place with various themed floors staffed by Japanese women. I guess there is some change you might ruin into your favorite AV star there. But you probably won’t.
The basement level is set up like a Japanese hot spring. There are bars where women wrapped in towels entertain guests. You can order a drink and chat or you can shell out for various paid options. The most interesting is probably buying a drink that your hostess warms up with her boobs. Much stranger is the option to be fed milk from a baby bottle. Though a woman on staff told me that is the most popular choice.
The next level up is a sort of cafeteria style place where you can eat and drink with women in tight fitting office gear. These are not porn stars but part time employees. I met a very busty Japanese gal here who could speak near-fluent English. I also had a surprisingly delicious butter curry based on a recipe created by a Japanese adult video star. Unique, but not very sexy.
The top floor was by far the most intriguing. It is set up like an executive level strip show with a stage in the middle. It is a supposed to be a “silent bar”. Meaning no one inside can talk. But that theme is only taken so far. Customers do have to put on clear full face masks when they enter. And body language is the main method of communication.
SOD Land in summary
There is a lot to SOD Land. But in my view the strip-style show is by far the most notable. I watched two sexy Japanese ladies dressed up like bunnies as they posed and even played Twister with audience participation.
Several different options were available here for a surcharge. One had a lady come right up to my face as she exhaled and nearly licked my clear face mask. Nearby a guy paid to have one of the two gals whisper into his ear intimately. Both ladies were quite attractive though neither was actually an SOD porn performer.
I would say that I had a good time at SOD Land even if it wasn’t necessarily sexual. It also came at quite the cost. Without going through a full itemization of the bill I can tell you that my visit with a few Japanese cohorts cost tens of thousands of Yen. It was certainly memorable. Perhaps even more so than a session at a run of the mill soapland. But it’s difficult to overlook that bill.
SOD Land is a unique and interesting place. I wouldn’t necessarily say it is a fantastic place to visit. But it is one of the those fascinating things you can find in Japan. Just like the Godzilla Head around the corner. When I consider the price and overall experience I think its fair to give SOD Land three stars.
