Interview with amateur porn producer Joe Pusher

Today I present an interview I did with amateur porn producer Joe Pusher. In the five or so years this website has been online dozens of interviews with people in the sex industry have been published here.

The subjects of these question and answer sessions have come from all around the world and various sectors of the industry. Interviews with people behind the scenes have actually been some of the most popular.

As the owner of a porn website Joe Pusher is definitely a behind the scenes player. On the other hand he stars in his own videos which means he actually is the scene at least in part. Interviewing a guy in such an interesting position with an interesting website was sure to produce an interesting interview. I trust that you will agree.

How old are you and where are you from?

I’m forty-five years old, and from Los Angeles California, specifically the southeast area of Los Angeles County.

Where did the name Joe Pusher come from?

Back in the year 2000, I was driving with some girls in the car, and we were playing the old song from back in the 70’s “Pusherman” by Curtis Mayfield, and the part when it says “I’m your pusherman” it almost sounds like “I’m Joe Pusher”, so that’s how the name got into my head.

When did you see your first porn?

It was around 1979-1980, and I was around 8 or 9 years old. There used to be these subscription TV channels in the Los Angeles area called “ONTV” and “SelectTV”, and they were broadcasted by sending a scrambled signal through the air, and you needed a special box at home to unscramble it, but we figured out how to mess with the tuner to be able to watch it just enough to get a picture, but without sound. The first time I remember watching a real porno with sound was a couple of years after that, on a VHS tape, at a friends house.

How did you get into porn?

In the year 2000, I knew some strippers through some other things I was doing, and we were messing around with a camera that I had just bought, so we shot a few videos, and then I started to accumulate more scenes with different girls. At that point, I knew I wanted to make pornos, but I didn’t really have an exact plan on how to make money at it. That same year, I bought my first computer, and I studied the market.

I didn’t see anything like the style of my videos, which are real amateur girls, but focusing on more of an L.A. street feel with lots of Mexican-American (Chicana) type Latinas, and also, the type of Asian girls that I knew from growing up in the L.A. area.

There were a few sites where you could post pics or videos, and I posted one of my videos, and it got a huge response. I knew I was on to something, and I tried to learn as much as I could, as fast as possible, so that I could start a website. Later that year I bought the domain JoePusher.com and lauched the paysite.

You have an interesting site. It is professionally done but it has an amateur feel at times. A lot of the models seem like they are first timers. What can you tell me about it?

They are all real amateur girls, and 99% of the time it’s the girl’s first time on camera. The only exception to that would be if I’m bringing a girl back to shoot again. I think the main unique feature of JoePusher.com, is that I am able to actually reach out into the neighborhoods around L.A. and the rest of the Southern California area, and recruit real, legit, first-timers, who probably would have never shot a porno if I didn’t find them. This leads to a lot of very spontaneous situations, that can’t be staged or duplicated. A girl can only have one real first time on camera, just by definition. I can also add other categories of girls, such as Black Girls, White Girls, MILF, etc, because the overall main draw is they are real amateur girls, so it still works on the site.

There are a lot of Asian models on your site. What’s the reason for that? Are you into Asian or is something else at play like the area where you make your videos?

I definitely love working with Asian girls, and there’s a combination of reasons why there are so many on the site. The site is intentionally heavy on Latinas and Asian girls to begin with because that’s how my recruiting is focused, and I get the best response from the fans when I add them to the site. The other reason is that there are just a lot of Asian girls around the Southern California area, so I’m always meeting them.

I always wonder whether or not producers and male talent ever go back and watch their own scenes for entertainment or sexual stimulation. How about that?

Not for sexual stimulation, but I do go back and watch my videos, especially the older ones, to study what has changed with my style of shooting. I get a lot of email from fans who say that they love the old scenes from way back, and I want the site to keep the same feel.

What is the best scene you’ve done so far?

There’s just so many over the years that it’s hard to pinpoint one scene. There’s many that I could use as examples, but here’s one that stands out.

There was a scene where I met three Latinas (Lisa, Karla, and Monica) in their car. They had actually run out of gas and they were stranded in an industrial area right off of the 10 freeway in the San Gabriel Valley. To make a long story short, I got my dick sucked by each of them through the car window in broad daylight.

Do you still watch porn created by others?

I try to keep up on what’s out there, so I’ll usually browse the internet and look at other sites, just to see what’s going on.

How does porn continue to make money now that high speed internet and tube sites are so widespread and common?

Those things have stopped some people from making money with porn, but those things haven’t stopped the overall business of porn from making money. Some people will figure out a way to keep making money, and some people won’t.

Where do you think the porn industry is headed?

I think it will continue the trend of becoming more and more decentralized, and the amateur producers from all around the world will get better and better, and the level of creativity and quality will increase due to the competition to get noticed. Cameras and lighting are cheap, and there are pretty girls everywhere.

The porn consumer market is going to grow, and people are going to come up with more clever ways to make money. In the year 2000, I couldn’t imagine that there would be a webcam girl doing her own thing, who would call me at 3:00 AM, and ask me if I can help her shoot a quick POV facial, because she just got a custom video request from a fan. And he’s paying with Bitcoin, so we’ll both get paid. And he’ll have his video file within the next few hours. I’m not worried.

What do you think about Japanese porn?

I do study Japanese porn. I like it and I’m fascinated by the concepts. I especially trip out on the Japanese game show porn, and those videos where the Japanese female newscaster is reading the news with a straight face and one guy after another blasts her face with cum, but she doesn’t flinch and just keeps on reading the news haha.

What do you think about prostitution?

A voluntary transaction between consenting adults should never be illegal. Government prohibition of anything just creates a black market, and the circumstances surrounding the black market create more harm than the act that they are trying to prohibit in the first place. It’s the same thing with the ridiculous drug war, in which you never get rid of the drugs, but you just get more misery, and you end up having to pay for more big government and cops, that you never would have otherwise needed.
