Since the time that this website first went online the number of readers has continually increased. By 2014 Rockit Reports was being viewed millions of times annually. By now the site has been viewed tens of millions of times. Some major news outlets have ever referred to the work here.
Readers find their way to this site by all sorts of ways often corresponding to their interests. The many interviews with people in the sex industry that I have done tend to draw in a large number of views though most times they aren’t commented on as often as some of the many reviews of adult establishments that I have published.
I have never written with the sole intention of drawing in the most eyes. My goal is to cover the commercial sex industry around the world. I tend toward the topics I find interesting. And I do my best to write in a way that others will enjoy. At times everything clicks and tens of thousands happen upon my work.
This year has been a good one for those who enjoy these interviews. This will be the fourth interview published in five months and there are many more in the works. Today I give you the results of my recent question and answer session with a prominent porn director who grew up in the American porn industry’s capital in California. It is both interesting and revealing.
When did you start shooting porn? And how did you get into it?
I grew up in San Fernando Valley aka “Porn Valley” so after graduating from college with a film degree my friend offered me a job shooting porn for his website. From there I built my resume directing for some of the best companies like Hustler, Brazzers, Naughty America, Twistys, BangBros, and Mile High.
How have things changed since you started?
The biggest change is income. They use to pay us extravagant money, now it has decreased because of rampant piracy.
What exactly is there to shooting porn? Is there a lot of direction or do the models just go at it leaving you to try and capture the best scene?
There has to be a vision, a way of telling a story, a style in the characters you shoot. Pairing the right talent together, making sure there is chemistry and then capturing it with the highest end video and photography equipment.
Do male models still have to be able to get hard and cum on command or have things like digital editing and Viagra made it possible for anyone with a cock to do a movie? Are there any fluffers
Nowadays male models need to be good looking, muscular, and have a large cock. It’s almost like professional sport. The guys have to take it seriously, get hard right away when we shoot and pop on command… or not get hired. No fluffers anymore.
I see your stuff all over the place. How many sites or companies do you shoot for? Is there any central repository of your work?
I have shot over 200 DVDs and 2,000 internet scenes. My first directorial debut was in June 2003, so I have been doing this professionally now for 12 years. I have worked for biggest companies in the industry such as Hustler, Brazzers, Naughty America, Twistys, BangBros, and Mile High.
Do you shoot any “mainstream” content?
I have been offered to shoot commercials and music videos but I have no mainstream aspirations so I declined. I am happy working in the adult industry.
What kind of relationship do you have with the models? Is there any validity to the casting couch rumors? Do you ever get to bang a model just for fun before or after a shoot?
I have great relationship with the models because I am married to a model and have dated lots of models so I understand what they go through and they can count on me for help. Yes the casting couch rumors are true, but you have to follow through with your promises.
Does the porn industry still make money? We hear rumors that free content killed it but there’s still so much content being created so there must be some kind of profit.
Yes piracy has affected everybody’s income. Most of us only make twenty to forty percent of what we use to make.
Do you get paid per shoot or is there some kind of back end revenue available? If something you shoot sells like crazy do you get any increase in income?
Yes you get paid per shoot or per movie. It depends on who you are. Some people get paid next to nothing. Some get paid millions.
Back end revenue is usually for directors that produce their own movies, so they have to front the production cost.
What was the first porn you saw and when was that?
My favorite porn scene is Jenna Jameson’s first scene with Randy West. I remembered him getting so turned on he creampied her… so erotic.
Did you ever think you’d see celebrity sex tapes become sort of mainstream and even an avenue for people to become stars like Kim Kardashian?
Honestly there is still a barrier for porn stars to cross to mainstream. Maybe one day instead of Megan Fox on Transformers it would be a porn star.
Do your friends and family know that you shoot porn? If so what do they think about it?
My immediate family knows and keeps it a secret to the rest of the family. My family doesn’t like it but I am one of those rare success stories. I made a lot of money doing this.
Can you have a normal dating life if you are involved in porn? Is it easier for those behind the scenes to have regular romances than it is for the stars?
No. Normal people aka civilians don’t understand or empathize with our careers and lifestyle so it’s easier to date someone in the business.
What advice would you have for anyone who wanted to follow your footsteps? Would the advice change if it was a friend or family member asking?
Here is my advice: this is showbiz. In any show business everyone wants to be a director, a model, a rock star, a rapper, a Hollywood actor/actress… the competition is fierce. The best will rise to the top.
What do you think about prostitution?
I think it should be legalized. It’s safer for the girls and the government will get the tax revenue.
Have you traveled abroad to any places where prostitution is legal or at least more common and socially accepted? If so what did you think?
I have been to 52 countries. I’m a world traveler. Unfortunately I have never partaken in going to a brothel or hiring a prostitute. But I think it should be legal around the world for safety.
Of all the scenes that you’ve shot, do you have a favorite?
When I shoot scenes I try to make it as sexy and hot as possible for everyone watching so I cover all the bases. Because what turns me on might not turn on the next guy. I like all my scenes. The ones I don’t like I don’t release… or I reshoot the scene.
How much longer do you plan on shooting porn?
I can shoot for another 10 to 20 years. My dream is to find the perfect investor willing to give me 5 million dollars so I can start my own company.
