Dominatrix is a BDSM themed bar in the Akasaka section of Tokyo. The place is a self-described SM Show Bar and that is pretty accurate. Customers can interact with the staff to a certain extent. But the main focus here is on the professional BDSM shows performed nightly.
The Dominatrix bar is staffed by a team of skilled BDSM experts. The women are led by a Japanese gal named Karen who is into the BDSM scene as both a business and a personal pursuit. She also does BDSM for fun outside of work. It’s clear that a lot of care and attention went into making the Dominatrix bar. It was definitely a labor of love.
The adult entertainment industry in Japan is absolutely massive. There are all sorts of unique adult venues in the country. Most do not allow foreigners inside. That’s either a result of xenophobia or due to a fear that gaijin customers won’t understand the rules. It could even be a combination of both.
Yet Dominatrix happily welcomes customers from around the world as long as they abide by the regulations. I’ve seen tourist wander in off the street for a drink and a show. They were treated kindly even by the women who make a women out by cracking people with whips.
Dominatrix BDSM club in Tokyo
Dominatrix is easy to find. There is an illuminated sign in the street that spells out the venue’s name in English. Then there is another lighted red sign on the wall indicating the basement location. The bar is right down a short flight of stairs.
Inside, the bar is dark and long. There is an actual bar on the left hand side that contains everything from the customary alcohol bottles to things like rubber dildos. Then there is a wall that is lined with whips, chains, cuffs, and other BDSM apparatuses. After that there is a more open space surrounded by several soft bench style seats. There are small tables in front of each seat with a menu.
As with many businesses in Tokyo the “system” here can be a bit overwhelming. Especially if you don’t speak Japanese. To put it simply, men pay an entrance fee of 8,000 Yen ($55 USD) per hour. This entitles them to one free drink. Women pay 5,000 Yen ($34 USD) for two hours and get a free drink and use of any costume. Couples can enter for 13,000 Yen ($90 USD) with no apparently time limit.
Additional drinks cost 500 to 1,000 Yen. Single men who want to view a show can pay a 6,000 Yen fee. This entitles them to an hour in the bar, one free drink, and one show viewing. You can also “nominate” ladies to sit with you for a fee. And while they may touch you, you are not allowed to touch them back unless invited.
Sexy SM staff
There are quite a few women working at Dominatrix. To my surprise they are all fit with some being quite good looking. This is different from what I’ve seen in my limited experience at other BDSM themed places around the world. Perhaps it has to do with being in the middle of Tokyo.
The gals here are also incredibly friendly. This might not be what you expect from “queens” who get paid to smack people around. But it is the truth. The ladies at Dominatrix have the uncanny ability to turn the kinky stuff on and off. So they can get into paddling a sexy gal’s ass at one minute then talk to you about the cuisine of your home country the next. It’s quite an experience.
In any event, there are at least a half dozen women in Dominatrix on any given night. They include regulars like Jenny, an office worker during the day and BDSM player at night. Another is the half-Polish and half-Japanese Lisa who is tall and very well-built. The professional Mistress Reika also works here when she’s not dominating men for pay elsewhere.
A few other very attractive women are also in the mix. Although none claimed to speak English I found that many could actually converse fairly well in the language. It is amazing how a little alcohol and some tight latex clothing can open people up.
Queen Slave Show and Summary
Customers can enter the club and drink at any time. They can also purchase drinks for the women inside. This can add up however. Especially if you splurge and go for one of the champagne options on the menu. Though the women do seem to genuinely appreciate drinks and give a lot of attention to those who buy them.
The main draw here are the BDSM shows which are put on with some regularity. The seats towards the back all sort of circle around a stage area. When a show starts music is played and LED lighting sets the mood. Then one of the dominant women like Mistress Reika will bring out a sub on a dog leash. From there things really get wild. You can expect to see whipping, hot wax dripping, rope play and more. At one point I watched as a sub was suspended from the ceiling by chains while she spun around slowly in a circle.
Customers aren’t able to interact with the ladies in the show. Though they can certain applaud afterward. Customers even give tips here. Since tipping is not customary in Japan this is certainly not required. Tips aren’t even given in Japan’s strip theaters. But even some of the Japanese men who come to watch shows here give money directly to the ladies in a show of appreciation.
Since you can see actual whip marks on the subs after the shows, it is clear that they give their all. I talked with a couple of the ladies. They told me there is some pain and even temporary marking of their bodies after they put on a performance. But they somehow enjoy this. And since they’re getting paid to do what they love, I am in no position to judge.
Dominatrix is one of the better run BDSM themed clubs I have seen. The people who work the bar put in their all. It is an interesting place to sit back and take in a show without having to take a beating. For those into the BDSM scene it may be even more intriguing. Four stars.
