Temptations is a strip club on the outskirts of Savannah, Georgia. Sometimes people will say a place is “in the middle of nowhere” to signify that it is out of the way. While Temptations is just over the border from a fairly major US city it is definitely out of the way. I wouldn’t say it is in the middle of nowhere however since it is actually in the middle of a large saltmarsh.
Locating Temptations is quite easy. It is literally the only building standing in a large empty bog filled with sediment and trickles of salt water. One could forget that there is human civilization only a few minutes away when visiting. Especially when they see the row of Port-A-Johns stationed in the parking lot. Plastic sheeting flapping in the wind near the entrance only adds to the ambience.
Apparently this is connected to some remodeling so I won’t hold it against the place. On the other hand I don’t think this is all that far from standard operating procedure here. Unlike some other American strip clubs Temptations does not have a dress code. That probably make the place accessible and attractive for some. But even though this place is decidedly low-end it is not necessarily low priced. The cover charge alone is $20 USD.
Temptations near Savannah
There are only two strip clubs in the Savannah area along with one more venue nearly an hour away. Within the immediate area Temptations has the advantage of being a fully nude bar. The local regulations allow the dancers to take off all of their clothes and show off every part of their bodies to customers.
Although I have been seeking out nude women around the world for decades this is not necessarily a draw for me. Or perhaps it is precisely because I have seen so many naked ladies that I am not impressed by the mere act of a gal taking off her g-string. Especially when places like Magic Table exist where things can go so much further.
I am not against the American strip club model. It is what it is and I tend to view things as they exist. I can see the value in kicking back while some women dance around with their clothes off. At the same time other things come into consideration. The place itself. The way staff acts towards its customers. The business practices. Any business owner wants to make money. But to what extent? An ATM machine with a $10 fee that only disperses $100 per transaction seems like more of a tax than a service rendered.
Staff, services, prices and summary
There are over a dozen women working at Temptations. Most are average white women in their twenties or thirties. A few are on the larger side. There are also a couple of average looking black dancers. Many dancers are heavily tattooed. Ultimately beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I can’t say I was impressed with the lineup. New York Dolls it isn’t. And to make things worse many of the women sit around in groups chatting with each other rather than working the floor.
Lap dances are available at $30 USD each. I am all for rewarding women for their work but the private dances here are simply not worth the money in my opinion. They basically just allow the customer to get a closer view of the woman. Other than that it is like watching the dancers on stage. No contact is allowed in this club at all. And that rule is strictly enforced by a group of large bouncers.
Nor is alcohol served. Customers are allowed to bring their own beer inside however. This is one of the many odd things that can found in America’s strip clubs. Rules change from one place to the next. One club may have topless women and serve beer while another has fully nude ladies on stage but no bar at all. As I wrote earlier it is what it is.
Still this place manages to bring out the people. It can get crowded to the point that one almost has to search out a seat in the crowd. Perhaps that is the result of being just one of two clubs around. Because I honestly cannot think of any other reason people who flock to such a place. Maybe in the past when catching a glimpse of a breast or bare backside was close to impossible. But in this day and age? Maybe the place just seems crowded due to its small size.
Temptations is a popular name for adult entertainment establishments. I have seen it used several times in my travels. Most notable is probably Temptation ladyboy bar in Bangkok’s Nana Plaza. But like that bar there is nothing here at this club that I find all too tempting. Ideally a strip club is set up to titillate and entertain. US strip clubs are like casinos in that they do best when customers forget about the outside world and buy in to the experience. Unfortunately during my visit to Temptation all I could think about was getting out of the area and back into civilization.

Yikes. That sounds like the exact opposite of a good time. Do you think the quality of American strip clubs has declined over the years, or has it always been that bad? As a comparison, I think that airlines in America used to be pretty good. Now they have become much worse in terms of customer service. Just like the above strip club, you can pay the airline a lot of money, and get very little in return.
Airlines may be a good comparison. The first flight took place in the United States. The country was also home to the first commercial airline. Nude dancing has certainly been around as long as humankind. But there is an argument that the modern strip club model originates in the US too. As a world traveler I have to admit that I now avoid US based airlines whenever possible. The quality and level of service is incredibly low. Especially when compared to airlines based in Asia. And the same could basically be said of nude dancing venues. Cheers.
